2022 Bertheaut-Gerbet - Vosne Romanee (750ml)

Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet was formed in 2013 when Amélie Berthaut-Gerbet, an agronomist and oenologist, combined her father Denis Berthaut's vines in Fixin with those of her mother's family, Domaine François Gerbet in Vosne-Romanée. The resulting eighteen-hectare estate spans Vosne-Romanée, Fixin, Gevrey-Chambertin, and a parcel of Clos de Vougeot. Under Amélie, the wines have moved away from a once tannic, robust style toward greater ripeness and gentler extraction.

This village Vosne-Romanée is a 1.2-hectare blend of two lieux-dits, Aux Réas and Au-Dessus de la Rivière, from vines planted between 1935 and 1955 on clay-limestone soil farmed sustainably. The grapes are fully destemmed, then fermented with native yeasts in concrete vats, with a mix of pump-overs and punch-downs during fermentation. The wine is aged for about thirteen months in barrel, roughly thirty percent new oak, before bottling.

True to the domaine's style, this Vosne-Romanée offers intense red and black fruit, dark cherry and raspberry, with floral touches of rose and violet and a light dusting of spice. Fine, elegant tannins give it a harmonious, well-integrated structure, while subtle notes of undergrowth add complexity beneath the fruit. It is noble and distinguished for a village wine, drinking well young but capable of further development.
