2022 Château Lagrange Saint-Julien One of the Médoc's great comeback stories and arguably the most dramatic transformation in Bordeaux over the past four decades — Lagrange, once a neglected and underperforming Third Growth, was acquired by Japanese firm Suntory in 1983 and painstakingly, methodically rebuilt into one of Saint-Julien's most reliable, characterful, and genuinely exciting estates. The investment in vineyard, cellar, and talent has been nothing short of extraordinary, and today Lagrange stands as a shining example of what vision, patience, and uncompromising dedication can achieve in this most demanding of appellations. The 2022 vintage showcases everything that makes this resurgent estate so compelling — a classically proportioned and beautifully crafted Saint-Julien of dark cassis, blackberry, and cedar framed by graphite, dried herbs, and a whisper of tobacco, with the appellation's signature harmonious balance of fruit, structure, and minerality in perfect, seamless alignment. The tannins are ripe and polished, the acidity fresh and precise, and the finish long, layered, and deeply satisfying in that quintessentially Saint-Julien way that no other appellation in Bordeaux can quite replicate. Third Growth classification, Second Growth ambition, and a price that remains one of the Médoc's most honest and rewarding propositions. Lagrange in 2022 is Saint-Julien at its most joyously dependable — and that is very high praise indeed.

95+ Points
"Cassis, ripe black cherries, freshly sharpened pencils, leather, and violet notes all shine in the 2022 Château Lagrange, a remarkably pure, concentrated, powerful Saint-Julien with fine tannins and a seamless, balanced mouthfeel. It has the fruit to shine even today. As with many of these top Médocs, I wouldn't be surprised to see this close down with 2-3 years of bottle age. It's going to be long-lived. The blend is 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot that spent 21 months in 60% new French oak."
