Domaine du Clos Frantin is the Côte de Nuits jewel of Maison Albert Bichot, the Beaune house founded in 1831 and now led by sixth-generation Albéric Bichot. Acquired by the family in 1964, the domaine's roughly 13 hectares are largely premier and grand cru, including Richebourg, Chambertin, Grands-Échezeaux, Échezeaux, and Clos de Vougeot. Farmed organically, the vineyards are worked with compost and tilling rather than fertilizers and herbicides.

The domaine owns 1.75 hectares of premier cru Les Malconsorts, which borders La Tâche and sits less than 400 meters from Romanée-Conti. Its east-southeast-facing vines, 35 to 40 years old, root in limestone-rich soils in a notably sunny spot. The name recalls old disputes among quarrelsome co-owners. Grapes are hand-harvested and sorted, macerated 18 to 21 days in wooden vats, then aged 16 to 17 months in barrel, 35 to 40 percent new.

Deep ruby with violet glints, it offers violets and black cherry alongside raspberry, blackcurrant, star anise, and a delicate touch of oak. The palate is silky and generous, balancing ripe dark fruit with vivid acidity and precise tannins before a long, licorice-tinged finish. Pair it with tournedos Rossini or roast guinea fowl.

92-94 Points
"Here the even spicier nose is comprised by notes of red cherry, dark currant and a lovely array of floral elements. There is excellent volume, concentration and power to the vibrant larger-bodied flavors that retain good focus on the dusty, sappy, firmly austere and compact finale. This isn't a huge Malconsorts but it's indisputably built-to-age and extended patience will absolutely be necessary."

94 Points
" bit of a monolith at this stage, with concentrated flavors of black cherry, blackberry, iron, black pepper and spices. Intense, this builds to the long, fruit-stained aftertaste, showing terrific balance, definition and staying power. Best from 2028 through 2047. 1,198 cases made, 125 cases imported.
