2022 Cobb Wines - Chardonnay Sonoma H. Klopp Vineyard

Cobb Wines was founded in 2001 by David Cobb, a marine ecologist by training who became one of the pioneering growers on the far Sonoma Coast, together with his son Ross Cobb, now recognized as one of California's most respected Pinot Noir specialists. David spent years studying soils and climate data before planting Coastlands Vineyard on the Sonoma Coast ridgetops in 1989, and that same research driven approach carries through the family's small, single vineyard portfolio, which remains focused primarily on Pinot Noir with only limited amounts of Chardonnay and Riesling.

H. Klopp Vineyard sits at the southernmost edge of the Green Valley section of the Russian River Valley, a site shaped by near constant fog that keeps the fruit cool and the acidity high. Only 275 cases of this Chardonnay were produced, reflecting the tiny scale the Cobb family works at across all of their sites. The wine is made with a light touch in the cellar, letting the vineyard's natural richness and mineral tension come through rather than leaning on oak.

The glass reveals baked peaches, jasmine, bread dough, allspice, and flint, unfurling slowly with air. The light bodied palate is concentrated and floral, with a silky texture and a long, gently honeyed finish. It pairs well with seared scallops, baked brie with honey, or roasted root vegetables.
