2022 Cobb Wines - Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast (750ml)
Cobb Wines was founded in 2001 by Ross Cobb and his parents, David and Diane, on a remote ridgeline west of Occidental, less than four miles from the Pacific. The family purchased the land in 1988 and planted Coastlands Vineyard the following year, a site that has since grown into a forty-acre estate with fourteen acres devoted to Pinot Noir. Before launching his own label, Ross spent several years as viticulturist and enologist for Williams Selyem, experience he now applies to farming the family estate sustainably, using organic and regenerative practices throughout.
The 2022 Sonoma Coast bottling draws fruit from four vineyards across the family's cool, maritime-influenced holdings: Abigail's, Emmaline Ann, Rice-Spivak, and Mes Filles. About half the fruit was fermented as whole clusters, a technique that lends structure and lift without overwhelming the delicate character of the fruit. The result reflects the region's defining cold, fog, and mineral-rich soils rather than heavy winemaking influence.
The wine shows a bright ruby hue, with fresh red berry fruit, black raspberry, lifted spice, and wildflowers on the nose. The palate is focused and medium-bodied, with a touch of salinity and lively acidity carrying through to a long finish. It pairs beautifully with grilled quail, aged brie, or a beet and endive salad.
