2022 Comte de Vogue - Musigny V.V. (750ml)
Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé traces its roots to 1450, when Jean Moisson built the house in Chambolle-Musigny that still anchors the estate. The de Vogüé name arrived by marriage in 1766, and Comte Georges ran the domaine for more than 50 years from 1925. His descendants own it today, with Jean Lupatelli succeeding longtime winemaker François Millet in 2021, alongside vineyard manager Éric Bourgogne.
The domaine owns about 7.2 hectares of grand cru Musigny, roughly 70 percent of the vineyard, including all of Les Petits Musigny. Rooted in limestone, only vines older than 25 years go into this cuvée, with younger vines declassified to premier cru. In 2022 the wine was assembled from seven separately vinified sub-sections of the vineyard, then bottled at the end of January, earlier than usual.
Cherry, raspberry, blood orange, rose petal, and a wisp of vine smoke rise from the glass, with hints of mulberry, earth, and licorice. Full-bodied and concentrated yet remarkably silky, it layers dense, unbroken fruit over fine, chalky tannins, finishing wide and fragrant. Ideally cellar it for a decade, then serve it with saddle of hare or truffle-roasted capon.
