2022 Coquard Loison Fleurot - Chambolle Musigny (750ml)
As its triple-barreled name suggests, Domaine Coquard-Loison-Fleurot unites several families, each working a different role from vineyard to sales. Winemaker Thomas Collardot, the son of a Coquard, has steadily raised the estate's profile, while Claire Fleurot has opened doors in export markets. Alongside its grand crus, the Flagey-Échezeaux domaine farms premier cru Vosne-Romanée Les Beaumonts and village plots in Gevrey, Morey, Chambolle, and Vosne.
The village Chambolle-Musigny is fermented with 25 percent whole bunches, which lend a touch of grip and spice, and matured in about 30 percent new oak. Like every wine from the domaine, it is hand-harvested and bottled without fining or filtration after roughly 18 months of élevage. The 2022 shows more energy and depth than the lighter 2021, while keeping Chambolle's hallmark finesse.
An elegant, floral nose layers spicy red cherry, plum, raspberry, wild strawberry, and cranberry. The medium-bodied palate is vibrant and detailed, firmer and a shade darker than the aromas suggest, with smooth but distinct tannins and a cool mineral thread on the finish. A few years in the cellar will add depth. Try it with roast quail or a wild boar ragù.
