2022 Coquard Loison Fleurot - Morey St. Denis (750ml)

Domaine Coquard Loison Fleurot farms in Flagey-Échezeaux in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits, though for years the family sold its fruit to négociants rather than bottling under its own name. That changed around 2010, when winemaker Thomas Colladot and commercial director Claire Fleurot took charge, pairing careful vineyard work with a push into international markets. The domaine now tends about nine hectares across a dozen appellations, anchored by six grand cru holdings.

Morey-Saint-Denis sits between Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny, and this village-level bottling draws on four separate parcels with varied soils, ranging from limestone to clay. The fruit is picked by hand and partially destemmed, with a portion of whole clusters carried into fermentation. Extraction is gentle, following long, cool macerations, and the wine spends about a year in French oak, roughly thirty percent new, before bottling with minimal intervention.

Dark cherry and crushed violet lead the nose, with a savory, faintly earthy undertone typical of Morey-Saint-Denis. The palate is medium-bodied and precise, its granular texture carrying black fruit with touches of blueberry toward a chalky, mineral finish. Approachable young yet built to age a few years, it pairs well with braised beef, roasted quail, or a firm alpine cheese.
