2022 Denis Bachelet - Bourgogne Rouge (750ml)
Denis Bachelet has run his family's domaine in Gevrey-Chambertin largely on his own since 1983, when he inherited just under two hectares his grandparents had left fallow. Guided by his motto "la finesse avant tout," finesse before all else, he rebuilt the estate parcel by parcel and now farms roughly four hectares, including a parcel of century-old vines in the grand cru Charmes-Chambertin.
This Bourgogne Rouge is drawn from old vines near the village, farmed with the same care Bachelet applies to his grand cru holdings, with attention to low yields and careful sorting at harvest. The grapes are entirely destemmed and crushed, then given a cool, multi-day maceration before fermentation begins with native yeasts. The wine is then aged in French oak, with a modest share of new barrels, before bottling.
This Bourgogne Rouge shows the same purity of fruit Bachelet is known for at every level, with bright cherry and wild strawberry set against light floral and earthy notes. The palate stays silky and light on its feet, carrying fine tannins and lively acidity through a clean, gently spiced finish. It drinks well now, alongside a charcuterie board, grilled sausages, or aged Gruyère.
