2022 Denis Mortet - Gevrey Chambertin mes Cinq Terroirs (750ml) [PRE ARRIVAL]
Denis Mortet founded his namesake domaine in Gevrey-Chambertin in the early 1990s, inheriting vines from his father, Charles Mortet, and splitting the family holdings with his brother. He formed a close friendship with Henri Jayer, whose influence shaped his exacting approach in the vineyard. After Denis's death in 2006, his son Arnaud took over winemaking, later joined by his sister Clémence, and the estate farms organically across Gevrey-Chambertin and neighboring villages.
Mes Cinq Terroirs is assembled from five plots on the northern edge of the appellation, En Motrot, Au Vellé, Combe du Dessus, En Champs, and En Dérée, planted with vines over sixty years old. Yields are kept low, with roughly a third of the crop left as whole clusters for fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The wine ages about eighteen months in barrel, a quarter new, before bottling unfined and unfiltered.
The wine opens with red plum, cherry, and cassis, lifted by sweet spice and a touch of forest floor. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied and fleshy, framed by powdery tannins and mineral drive through a long, structured finish. Best given a few years to soften, it suits braised short ribs, venison, or a firm sheep's-milk cheese.
