An Addy Bassin's Direct Import and perennial customer favorite!

Erwin Poller's family has farmed grapes and made wine in Austria's Weinviertel for more than three hundred years, a lineage that traces back to his grandfather Johann Poller, who began bottling wine exclusively in 1920 and once carted his barrels to Vienna by cart, a three day journey each way. Today Erwin tends roughly twenty hectares near Röschitz, farming organically and keeping chickens in the vineyard rows to manage pests naturally. He remains hands on throughout the process, picking grapes by hand into small boxes to keep them from bruising on the way to the cellar.

This bottling draws from a mix of estate vineyards planted across loess soils layered over chalk and granite. Grapes are hand harvested at full ripeness, then pressed gently so the stems release no bitterness into the must. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel using a native yeast culture that Poller has cultivated and refined over many years, preserving the grape's natural freshness without any oak influence.

The finished wine offers citrus notes of lime and grapefruit alongside crisp green apple and pear, with a touch of white pepper and a faint radish like bitterness that gives the finish some grip. A creamy undertone rounds out the palate despite its lively acidity. Serve it with grilled shrimp, roast pork with apples, or a bright green salad with herbs.
