One of the Southern Rhône's most consistently rewarding and characterful village wines — and a bottle that delivers genuine terroir and typicity at a price that makes it one of the smartest buys in the shop. Domaine de Mourchon was born from a true coup de cœur — Scottish entrepreneur Walter McKinlay and his family fell irreversibly in love with a spectacular 17-hectare hillside vineyard in the secluded valley between Séguret and Mont Ventoux, built a state-of-the-art gravity-flow winery from scratch, and have since earned a reputation as one of the appellation's foremost producers.

The Tradition is a classic Southern Rhône blend of 65% Grenache, 25% Syrah, and 10% Carignan from 40-year-old hillside vines, raised entirely in unlined concrete tanks to preserve maximum freshness and terroir transparency — not a whisper of oak, just pure Séguret character. The 2022 earned 90 Points from aggregated critics, and Jancis Robinson praised the concrete-aged Grenache/Syrah blend as a classic style — a pure and honest expression of terroir and grape varieties with juicy sweet fruit, structure, and amazing freshness — lots of pleasure. Deep garnet in color with well-blended aromas of raspberry and blackberry and a hint of liquorice on a spicy background, with a velvety, generous palate of supple fruit. The definition of an honest, authentic, beautifully made Southern Rhône red — buy a case.

91 Points
"Offers an attractive stream of black raspberry and lavender on a plush yet firm frame. Violet, warm brown bread and graphite shaving notes complete the package, with pleasing chewiness on the long, mineral-rich and drawn-out finish. Solid. Grenache and Syrah. Drink now through 2032. 3,300 cases made, 90 cases imported."
