2022 Domaine Felettig - Vosne Romanee Vieilles Vignes
Domaine Felettig is based in Chambolle-Musigny, founded by Henri Felettig in 1974 and joined in 1993 by his children, Gilbert and Christine, who now run the estate together, with Gilbert's daughter Pauline recently coming on board. The domaine farms organically across some thirty climats, including seven premier crus, with a house style built on freshness, salinity, and old vines averaging forty to fifty years.
This Vosne-Romanée is sourced mainly from Aux Jâchées, with smaller portions from Chalandins and a touch of Chaumes premier cru, planted with old vines that give the wine its depth. About half the crop is fermented as whole clusters to add freshness, and the wine matures in barrel with roughly fifty percent new oak. Grapes are hand harvested and gently vinified to preserve the site's mineral character.
The wine shows a bright, even purple color with a light, fragrant nose of violet-tinged red fruit. On the palate it is medium-bodied, with black pepper-tinged red fruit, a good weight of fruit, and a persistent, high-class finish. Give it a couple of years in bottle, and it pairs well with duck breast, roast game birds, or aged Comté.
