2022 Geantet-Pansiot - Marsannay Champs Perdrix (750ml)
Domaine Geantet-Pansiot was founded in the 1950s following the marriage of Edmond Geantet and Bernadette Pansiot, and is based in Gevrey-Chambertin under the family motto "être sobre, c'est boire bon," being sober means drinking well. Vincent Geantet now runs the roughly twenty-two-hectare estate alongside his son, Fabien, farming limestone and clay-limestone soils across Gevrey, Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis, and Marsannay without herbicides or chemical fertilizers.
Champs Perdrix is the southernmost vineyard in Marsannay, planted on a steep slope with shallow topsoil that gives the wine its light, mineral character. Though not officially classified as premier cru, many consider it deserving of the status. Grapes are hand harvested and fermented with indigenous yeasts, then aged around fourteen months in oak barrels, about thirty percent new, a regimen that supports the wine's delicate fruit without overwhelming it.
The wine shows intense aromas of soft red and black fruit, with floral and spicy touches and a chalky, mouthwatering freshness. The palate is elegant, with silky tannins and a long finish that hints at more depth than the appellation usually delivers. Serve it with roast capon, rabbit in mustard sauce, or a venison roast.
