2022 Ghislaine Barthod - Chambolle Musigny Beaux Bruns (750ml) [PRE ARRIVAL]
Domaine Ghislaine Barthod traces its roots to the 1920s, when Marcel Noëllat began the estate, later passing it to his daughter, who married Gaston Barthod, a soldier stationed in Dijon who came to buy some wine and, as the story goes, left with the girl as well. Gaston gave up military life for the vineyards in 1960, and his daughter, Ghislaine, took over alongside her partner, Louis Boillot, purchasing their current property overlooking the premier cru Les Feusselottes in 1986. Though the couple share a vineyard team, their winemaking and commercial operations remain entirely separate. Working just over six hectares entirely within Chambolle-Musigny, Ghislaine has built one of Burgundy's most respected small domaines, bottling an unmatched range of five premier crus alongside her village and Bourgogne wines.
Aux Beaux Bruns comes from a 0.75-hectare parcel of fifty-year-old vines, on lighter, limestone-gravel soils typical of Chambolle-Musigny, with barely any topsoil covering the bedrock. The wine is vinified traditionally, with measured use of oak to preserve the purity and natural tension of the fruit, and tends toward one of Ghislaine's more broad-shouldered, structured expressions.
The wine shows a deep ruby color with garnet highlights, offering black cherry, morello cherry, blood orange zest, and violet lifted by a saline mineral note. The texture is velvety, with silky tannins and generous fruit balanced by real structure through a long finish. It pairs beautifully with red meats or game.
