From Hartford Family Winery, founded in 1992 by Don and Jenny Hartford and now part of Jackson Family Wines, this Pinot Noir hails from Hartford Court’s Sevens Bench vineyard in Carneros. The site is planted mainly to the Mount Eden clone, with Calera, Batto, and Entav 809 plantings, set on Haire clay loam over an uplifted ancient riverbed that drains well and concentrates flavor in the small berries the vineyard yields.
The 2022 vintage expresses a riper, more savory profile, beginning with iron-tinged earth, dried cherry, and a touch of menthol on the nose. The palate is plush and mineral-driven, carrying light gamey richness and ripe tannins through a clean, enduring finish.
Hartford Court’s Sevens Bench name reflects Hartford's historic Carneros label. The winery operates within Jackson Family Wines, drawing on relationships with low-yield vineyards across the Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast, and Carneros. The program is rooted in sustainable, organic, and biodynamic farming, with tight vine spacing and dry farming used to concentrate flavor across roughly twenty single vineyard bottlings the winery produces each year.
