2022 Honig - Cabernet Sauvignon Napa (750ml)
Honig Vineyard & Winery traces back to 1964, when Louis Honig purchased a 68-acre ranch in Rutherford to grow Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon for neighboring wineries. His grandson Michael Honig took over in 1984 and built the family's small garage operation into a respected, sustainably farmed estate. Today Honig is led by an all-female winemaking team focused entirely on just two varieties, Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon is built mainly around estate fruit from the family's sustainably farmed Rutherford vineyard, rounded out with grapes from other Napa Valley sources. Each vineyard block is picked and fermented separately, then blended with small amounts of Malbec, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petite Sirah. The finished blend spends about eighteen months in a mix of French and American oak.
The 2022 opens with blackberry, red plum, and raspberry, layered with cranberry, black tea, and a touch of coriander seed. The palate is full and silky, framed by ripe, well-managed tannins that carry through a long finish with a whisper of toasted oak. It's a natural match for grilled flank steak or a lamb tagine.
