2019 Joseph Drouhin - Beaune Greves (750ml)
Maison Joseph Drouhin was founded in Beaune in 1880 and remains family owned today, now guided by its fourth generation. While the house is best known for its flagship Clos des Mouches, its holdings span roughly 78 hectares across the Côte de Beaune, Côte de Nuits, Chablis, and Oregon, supplemented by long-running partnerships such as its agreement with the Marquis de Laguiche, which grants access to an important share of Le Montrachet. Philippe Drouhin began shifting the family's vineyards toward organic practices decades ago, and the estate earned full organic certification for all grapes grown from the 2009 vintage forward.
Grèves is a premier cru site just outside Beaune's old town walls, long regarded as one of the appellation's most structured and age-worthy terroirs, its name tracing to the gravelly, stony ground overlying limestone. Drouhin's Grèves comes from estate-grown vines, hand harvested and vinified using traditional Burgundian methods, then aged in oak with a measured hand to let the site's character show through.
The 2019 is medium-bodied, with crisp, slightly chalky tannins and a firm, energetic structure. Red fruit and earthy minerality carry through to a long, saline finish that leaves the palate wanting another sip.
