La Cayetana is a small, boutique label belonging to Emilia Armando, wife of winemaker Eduardo Soler, the founder behind Ver Sacrum. Soler entered winemaking after returning to Mendoza and connecting with a group of experimental growers exploring Rhône varieties in unconventional Argentine sites. The project centers on reviving old-fashioned Mendoza winemaking techniques with minimal technological intervention, giving each small-batch release a distinct, artisanal character.

This Syrah comes from a single estate vineyard in Los Chacayes, Vista Flores, planted in 2012 on rocky, calcareous alluvial soils at around 1,100 meters, part of the old bed of the Arroyo Grande. The grapes are hand harvested and fermented with native yeasts, including 50 percent whole clusters, over a slow 28-day process in French oak. The wine then ages for twelve months in barrel followed by eight months in bottle, where it also completes a spontaneous malolactic fermentation.

The result is a fragrant, spice-driven Syrah with notes of plum, cassis, and black olive, joined by hints of smoke and cured meat reminiscent of the Rhône. On the palate it is broad and juicy, with fine but present tannins carrying through to a long, energetic finish. It pairs well with grilled pork, smoked meats, or hearty stews.
