2022 Maison Meo-Camuzet - Marsannay (750ml)
The Méo family has grown grapes in Burgundy for more than four centuries, though the modern estate traces back to Etienne Camuzet, an early twentieth-century politician who built up the property in Vosne-Romanée. His descendant Jean-Nicolas Méo took the reins in 1989 and has spent decades reclaiming sharecropped parcels for the family label, while also building Méo-Camuzet Frère et Sœurs, a négociant arm that sources fruit from trusted growers to broaden the range beyond the estate's own vineyards.
This Marsannay is a négociant bottling, sourced mainly from a plot known as La Varangée, supplemented when needed by fruit from Les Récilles for extra ripeness. Made entirely from Pinot Noir farmed along organic lines, the wine is aged in barrel with only a small proportion of new oak, a light touch meant to preserve freshness rather than add weight.
The wine shows bright red cherry and redcurrant, with a touch of spice and fresh-turned earth. Light to medium-bodied, it has a silky texture and lively acidity that keep it easy to drink young, though it can also reward a few years in the cellar. It pairs nicely with pan-seared pork chops, roast chicken, or a mild cheese plate.
