Guido Marsella is considered one of the pioneers of modern Fiano di Avellino, leaving a career as a builder in 1995 to buy his first vines in Summonte, in the Irpinia hills of Campania, an area now regarded as one of the appellation's finest crus. He was the first Fiano producer to hold back his wines, releasing them at least a year after harvest rather than right away, a practice that has since become a hallmark of quality Fiano and one that Marsella himself pushed even further over time.

This wine comes from hillside vineyards around 600 to 750 meters above sea level, planted on clay and limestone soils rich in volcanic elements. After a gentle pressing, the wine ferments in temperature-controlled stainless steel, then rests on its lees for about a year before bottling, and the estate holds it back even longer before release. The high altitude, cool mountain climate, and patient aging give Marsella's Fiano its notable acidity and long aging potential.

The wine shows a bright straw-yellow color, with aromas of white and yellow stone fruit, aromatic herbs, citrus, and a touch of flint. On the palate it is fresh, mineral, and structured, with real energy and a long, saline finish. It pairs well with seafood, risotto, or white meats.

93 Points
"A complex fiano with aromas of stone fruit, seaweed, spices and minerals. There’s a lot of fruit sweetness, crisp acidity and a medium body with weight and a silky texture. Drink now."
—Aldo Fiordelli-James Suckling
