2022 McPrice Myers - Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles Bull By the Horns (750ml)
Winemaker McPrice Myers grew up hearing his father say "sometimes you have to grab the bull by the horns" whenever a challenge arose, a phrase that later inspired the name of this bottling. Myers built his reputation crafting balanced, textured Cabernets from Paso Robles, and created this label specifically to answer a tough question: how do you make serious Cabernet at an approachable price. He sources fruit from respected sites across Paso Robles' Adelaida, Estrella, and El Pomar districts, working closely with growers to farm some of the region's most sought-after vineyards.
This Cabernet Sauvignon comes from Paso Robles' limestone-rich eastern soils, an area known for imparting distinct minerality and structure to its reds. Myers favors a minimal intervention approach, relying on native yeast fermentation and skipping fining and filtration to preserve the wine's character. After fermentation, the wine ages in French and American oak barriques, an approach built to deliver real depth and aging potential without sacrificing approachability.
The nose shows baked red cherry and plum layered with graphite, tobacco, dried herbs, and a touch of aniseed. On the palate, the wine is full bodied and generous, with black currant and cassis flavors carrying through to a long, fine-grained tannic finish and a lift of juicy acidity. This Cabernet is a nice match for a dry-aged ribeye, wild boar ragu, or dark chocolate with sea salt.
