McPrice Myers was founded by winemaker Mac Myers, who crafted his debut vintage in 2002 from just half a ton of grapes sourced through a small cooperative in Paso Robles. A self-described food and wine enthusiast, Myers quickly earned praise from critics for wines that highlight the varied terroirs of California's Central Coast, from Santa Barbara up through Paso Robles. In 2014 the winery relocated to its current home in the Adelaida District, and the operation has continued to expand its portfolio while staying rooted in small-lot, site-driven winemaking.

Pound for Pound draws its fruit from vineyards farmed by the Dusi family, among the earliest growers in Paso Robles, and is blended primarily from Zinfandel with a small portion of Petite Sirah. The grapes were destemmed and given a three to five day cold soak before fermentation, with regular pump-overs and punch-downs helping build color and structure. The finished wine reaches 14.8 percent alcohol, balancing ripeness with the natural acidity that Paso Robles nights help preserve.

This Zinfandel offers aromas of hibiscus flower, dragonfruit, and mulberry, layered with blood orange, cinnamon stick, and a touch of sandalwood. The palate is fresh and juicy, carrying that fruit through to a lively, energetic finish. It suits grilled sausages, barbecue ribs, or a spiced lentil stew equally well.
