Domaine Michel Lafarge has been rooted in Volnay since the early nineteenth century, and the estate's modern reputation was built over six decades by the legendary Michel Lafarge, who handed the reins to his son Frédéric in 1978. Frédéric and his wife Chantal now run the roughly twelve-hectare property, which has been certified organic and biodynamic since 2000, farming with a light touch across village, premier cru, and grand cru parcels.

This Bourgogne Rouge comes from old-vine parcels of more than forty years, sitting at the base of the Volnay hill, including a plot known as Petit Pré that was once classified as village Volnay. The grapes are fully destemmed and fermented with ambient yeasts, then aged in barrel with only a modest portion of new oak, and bottled unfiltered.

The wine shows red cherry and raspberry, with a touch of bergamot, spice, and freshly turned earth. Medium-bodied and lively, it has fine-grained tannins and real grip for a regional bottling, echoing the structure of Volnay itself. It pairs nicely with herb-roasted chicken, grilled pork tenderloin, or a soft ripened cheese.
