2022 Molino di Grace - Chianti Classico (750ml)
Il Molino di Grace takes its name from a nineteenth century windmill that still marks the entrance to the estate, a few kilometers south of Panzano in the heart of Chianti Classico. Founded in the 1990s by Frank Grace and later carried forward by his sons, the winery farms vineyards that monks from a local monastery first cultivated more than three centuries ago. A nine meter statue of San Francesco della Vigne now watches over the rolling, rocky galestro hillsides, a fitting emblem for an estate that pairs old world tradition with organic, modern winemaking methods.
The wine is made entirely from Sangiovese grown between 280 and 400 meters on south facing, rocky slopes, hand harvested in late September and early October. Fermentation includes about twenty days of skin contact at controlled temperatures with frequent punch-downs to gently extract color and tannin. The wine then ages for roughly a year across a mix of stainless steel, Slavonian oak, French barriques, and once-used tonneaux, a varied approach meant to balance freshness with structure.
The 2022 opens with cedar and cherry, joined by a hint of oolong tea, cedar-tinged raspberry, and red licorice, with black pepper adding a spicy edge. Medium bodied with bright, mouthwatering acidity, it finishes dry with a fine, dusty grip of tannin. Pair it with short rib ragù, roasted chicken, or a simple pasta with tomato sauce.
