2022 Pegau - Chateauneuf du Pape Laurence (750ml) [PRE ARRIVAL]
Known as the "big sister" of Pégau's Cuvée Réservée, Cuvée Laurence shares an identical blend but undergoes extended aging, 4 years in 50-hectoliter old oak foudres rather than the standard 2, allowing a deeper osmosis between supple tannins and the spice of old wood. Made from 80% Grenache, 6% Syrah, 4% Mourvèdre, and 10% other traditional varieties from vines averaging 60+ years old, hand-harvested with no destemming and fermented with native yeasts in concrete vats. Expect a garnet color with brick-red highlights, aromas of garrigue evolving into stone fruit, leather, fur, and undergrowth, with cinnamon, pepper, and gamey meat notes developing further complexity with age. One of the most traditionally-styled, benchmark expressions of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, from the father-daughter team of Paul and Laurence Féraud.
