2022 Steindorfer - St. Laurent Reserve (750ml)
Weingut Steindorfer has been rooted in the village of Apetlon, in the Seewinkel area on the shores of Lake Neusiedl, since Rudolf Steindorfer founded the estate in 1926. Unlike many neighboring farms that also raised grain or livestock, the family has focused solely on winegrowing across four generations. Roland Steindorfer took over the property in 2012, continuing his father Ernst's work while bringing his own approach to a flat, unique landscape shaped by Burgenland's Pannonian climate, with hot summers and cold winters moderated by the lake.
This Reserve comes from the single Illmitzerweg vineyard, planted on black earth soil with vines around twenty-one years old at harvest. Grapes are hand-picked in September, with a strict selection down to as few as six clusters per vine to concentrate quality. Following roughly two weeks of maceration, the wine is matured for eighteen months in new barriques, a process that builds depth while preserving the grape's natural character.
In the glass, the wine offers a deep, dark color and a bouquet layered with cherries, soft chocolate, spice, and vanilla. The palate shows real structure and concentration, with fine tannins and vibrant acidity carrying through to a long, persistent finish. It makes a fitting companion for duck, roast pork, or a hearty cassoulet.
