Tenuta di Trinoro sits in the Val d'Orcia in southern Tuscany, founded by the late Andrea Franchetti on steep, previously uncultivated hillsides that few believed could produce serious wine. Campo di Magnacosta is the founding vineyard in Franchetti's collection of three single-site Cabernet Franc crus, first released in 2011 once the vines had matured enough to express their particular soil with real precision. The site was planted with cuttings sourced from a Pomerol vineyard, a nod to Franchetti's admiration for the great wines of that Bordeaux appellation.

The vineyard covers just 1.5 hectares on river gravel and silt soils at the bottom of the valley, a position that helped the vines find enough water to properly ripen their small crop of grapes despite the summer's heat and scarce rainfall. Timely September rains cooled the vintage and shaped much of the fruit's character. After harvest, the wine ferments in stainless steel for ten to fifteen days, then ages for around five months in French oak followed by roughly a year resting in cement tanks.

The 2022 shows a fairly pale color with a bouquet of ripe yet fresh red fruit and floral notes reminiscent of flowering mustard, layered over an undercurrent of Mediterranean scrub. The palate carries real freshness and lift, a hallmark of this cooler, low-yielding site. Pair it with roasted duck, grilled lamb chops, or a rich mushroom based dish.
