2022 Thivin - Brouilly Reverdon (750ml)
Château Thivin's history on Mont Brouilly stretches back to the fourteenth century, though its modern era began in 1877 when Zaccharie Geoffray purchased the château and its original two hectares at auction. His son Claude expanded the estate over the following decades, and a later Claude Geoffray helped establish Côte de Brouilly as its own appellation during the difficult years of the Great Depression, later founding the Maison du Beaujolais with his wife Yvonne in 1953 to raise the profile of the region as a whole. Today Claude-Edouard Geoffray and his wife, Sonia, represent the sixth generation to run the estate, farming organically across some thirty hectares spread over ten distinct plots.
Reverdon is a 5.5-hectare, east-facing hillside opposite Mont Brouilly itself, marked by friable pink granite soil low in organic matter and home to two centuries-old stone huts that testify to the site's long viticultural history. The grapes are hand-picked and fermented whole-bunch in the estate's gravity-fed hillside cellars, with a short eight-day maceration meant to capture maximum freshness, followed by seven months of aging in cement vats.
The 2022 shows pure aromas of cherry, candied berry, and pomegranate mingled with sweet spice and cherry blossom. The palate is medium-bodied and velvety, with fine, talc-like tannins and notes of candied ginger running through a long, floral finish. Pair it with cured meats, roast chicken, or grilled summer vegetables.
