Valravn approaches Sonoma County as a single, unified canvas, sourcing sustainably farmed fruit from far-flung corners of the region, including Rockpile to the northwest, Moon Mountain and Sonoma Valley to the southeast, and high-elevation sites up in the Mayacamas range. Winemaker Rob Fischer builds each vintage as an exploration of the county's diversity, blending parcels chosen for their differing elevations, aspects, and soils into a single cohesive wine rather than favoring any one appellation's signature style.

The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon draws from four distinct sub-AVAs, including Knights Valley, Moon Mountain, Alexander Valley, and Chalk Hill, blended with a small portion of supporting varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petite Sirah. Grapes are hand-harvested and hand-sorted before an extended cold soak and primary fermentation in stainless steel. The wine is then racked into French oak, a mix of new, second-use, and neutral barrels, for malolactic conversion and sixteen months of aging, with roughly a quarter of the barrels new oak.

The finished wine shows layered dark blue and black fruit alongside cassis, dried flowers, graphite, and a whisper of licorice, with savory, mineral-driven undertones running throughout. The palate is rich and structured, framed by chewy, well-integrated tannins and a long, complex finish. Pair it with braised lamb shank, grilled bison, or aged cheddar.
