2022 Willm - Riesling Cuvee Lina (750ml)
Maison Willm has been crafting Alsace wines since 1896, when founder Emile Willm established the estate in Barr, at the base of the Kirchberg de Barr Grand Cru vineyard. The family's winemaking roots in the region reach back to 1398, and Willm holds a notable place in American wine history as one of the first Alsace producers to export across the Atlantic after Prohibition was repealed. Today the house farms vineyards across the Haut-Rhin and Bas-Rhin, producing a broad range that spans four Grand Crus, sparkling Crémant, late harvest bottlings, and the Cuvée Lina line, its organic offering.
The Cuvée Lina Riesling grows on the granite and clay-limestone slopes surrounding Barr, where south and southeast-facing exposures near the Vosges foothills give the vines a dry, sunny microclimate and a long, gradual ripening season. Farmed organically, the grapes are hand harvested and pressed gently before a slow fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, preserving the variety's natural aromatics. The wine then rests briefly on its fine lees, adding texture and depth before bottling.
Pale yellow with golden glints, this Riesling opens with aromas of citrus, orchard fruit, and white flowers. On the palate it is clean, dry, and refreshing, carrying good acidity and a straightforward, food-friendly character that closes on a subtle mineral note. It suits shellfish, grilled fish, roast poultry, or goat cheese, and makes an easy, versatile pour on its own.
