From a 12th century Augustinian monastery in the Isarco Valley near Bolzano, one of Alto Adige's most consistently excellent producers. Praepositus (Latin for "leader") is the estate's top reserve tier, a selection of the best fruit from their steep, granitic-schist vineyards at 650 to 750 meters. Kerner itself is a 1929 German cross of Schiava and Riesling, and here it shows real pedigree: elderflower, tropical fruit, alpine herb, and nutmeg on the nose, full-bodied and vibrant on the palate with gooseberry, grapefruit, yellow peach, and a tangy saline edge, all carried by bright, energetic acidity. A genuinely serious mountain white with real aging potential, thanks to its Riesling lineage.

"The 2023 Kerner Praepositus is nearly tropical in character, as minty herbs and hints of kiwi give way to green melon and sweet spice. It is youthfully dense on the palate, with a core of ripe orchard fruits and candied citrus tones that flow across its silken textures as a bump of zesty acidity adds freshness toward the close. A stern mineral component emerges through
the tension-filled finale, as nuances of mint fade slowly.
