2023 Ana Maria Cumsille - Lomas Coloradas Carignan (750ml)
Ana María Cumsille built her reputation over two decades working at some of the world's most respected estates, including Château Margaux in Bordeaux, Lafite's Los Vascos, and Chile's Viña Altair and Viña Indomita. That experience led her back to the Itata Valley, where she fell for the region's old bush vines and formed close relationships with the small farming families who tend them across the subregions of Guarilihue, Cerro Verde, Trehuaco, and Ranquil. Rather than planting her own vineyards, she buys fruit from these growers to craft single vineyard wines that highlight Itata's heritage varieties, work that has earned her recognition as one of Chile's most closely watched winemakers.
Lomas Coloradas comes from Carignan bush vines around eighty years old, grown on the granitic, sandy soils typical of Ranquil in southern Chile's Itata Valley. The vineyard is farmed sustainably with minimal intervention, and the grapes undergo a natural fermentation lasting roughly three weeks, allowing the fruit's character to develop without reliance on cultured yeast or heavy oak influence.
The wine opens with fresh herbs, purple flowers, and dark chocolate over a core of black and purple fruit. The palate strikes a balance between richness and elegance, closing with a layered, saturated finish built on fine grained tannins. It suits grilled lamb, venison, or other hearty roasted meats.
