2023 Benjamin Leroux - Meursault (750ml)
Born in Beaune in 1975, Benjamin Leroux was named technical director at Domaine du Comte Armand at just twenty-four and spent fifteen vintages there before launching his own négociant house in 2007, eventually stepping away from Comte Armand in 2014 to focus on it full time. His name is often mentioned among those who could carry forward Henri Jayer's legacy. Today he manages roughly thirty hectares across the Côte d'Or, eight of them estate-owned and organically and biodynamically farmed, producing around fifty cuvées that range from simple Bourgogne bottlings to grand cru.
This village Meursault comes from five lieux-dits at the foot of the slope, including Les Criots and Les Millerands, whole-cluster pressed and fermented with native yeasts across a mix of foudres and small barrels. The wine matures on its lees for twelve to eighteen months, with new oak kept to a modest share, favoring texture over overt wood flavor.
The nose shows a light reductive edge with walnut and fine tension. The palate is well balanced, opening harmoniously with white fruit and a hint of toast, closing on a honeyed, seductive finish. Pair it with grilled trout, roast chicken, or a slice of aged Comté.
