Bruno Colin works out of the old family winery in the center of Chassagne-Montrachet, where he vinifies more than twenty cuvées separately, over half of them premier cru, aging each in barrel for twelve to eighteen months. His style is defined by a careful balance of aroma and texture, letting the delicate minerality of each individual vineyard come through rather than imposing a house signature across the range.

Les Vergers is a relatively overlooked premier cru sitting in the lieu-dit Les Pasquelles near the border with Saint-Aubin, covering just under thirty-four ares of vines planted in 1974 and 1986 on clay-limestone soils. The grapes are hand harvested and sorted before twelve months in oak, with roughly a quarter new barrels, a treatment that gives the wine a touch of smoky lift without overwhelming its natural precision.

Tightly mineral and intricate, the wine carries a zippy line through the palate that recalls Puligny more than typical Chassagne, though real depth and texture in the fruit pull it back home. Apricot and quince notes add generosity, closing on a saline, enduring finish. Pair it with roast turkey, grilled king prawns, or a nutty hard cheese.

91 Points
"Smoky aromas of poached pear, just sliced apple, lemon-lime and a floral nuance give way to slightly more energetic flavors that possess solid concentration and better length on the clean, dry and refreshing finish. Once again, better depth would be bene..."
