Cadre Wines is the passion project of Lucy and John Niven, a small-production label dedicated to cool-climate white wines that showcase Edna Valley’s distinct character. Sea Queen Albariño, a 2023 release, is crafted entirely from Albariño grown in Edna Valley, one of California’s coolest wine-growing areas, where the Pacific’s proximity and steady marine influence keep the vines vibrant and the acidity bright.

The maritime climate is embraced as both challenge and asset here, yielding a wine that carries real tension and energy. The fruit is vinified to preserve freshness and the site’s natural salinity, rather than masking it with heavy-handed winemaking.

In the glass, Sea Queen presents pale gold with aromas of citrus, orange blossom, and tropical fruit, complemented by a distinct briny note that nods to Edna Valley’s coastal character.

On the palate, you’ll find layers of lemon, pear, and stone fruit unfolding over crisp, mouthwatering acidity, finishing with a mineral, saline lift that lingers.

This bottle is an excellent match for grilled fish, ceviche, or fresh goat cheese.
