A benchmark Châteauneuf-du-Pape from one of the appellation's most consistently excellent and criminally underappreciated estates, the 2023 Domaine de la Charbonnière is a richly layered, Grenache-driven southern Rhône of extraordinary depth, warmth, and classic garrigue-kissed complexity — serious wine from a serious producer at a price that still makes sense.
93 Points
"Based on 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and 15% Mourvèdre from galets roulés, sable/safre, and clay-loam soils, the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape was partially destemmed and aged in a mix of foudre, demi-muids, and neutral barrels. It offers gorgeous red and black fruits, peppery garrigue, loamy earth, and some cured meat notes. Medium to full-bodied, it has a concentrated, layered mid-palate, ripe, nicely integrated tannins, and outstanding length. This serious, classic cuvée does everything right and will shine over the coming 10-15 years. Drink 2025-2040."
