2023 Charbonniere Vacqueyras (750ml)

Domaine de la Charbonnière has been the singular passion of the Maret family since 1912, now run by fourth-generation sisters Véronique and Caroline, who moved the estate to organic farming starting in 2012. This Vacqueyras comes from two lieux-dits, "Pavane" and "La Verde," on the appellation's stony clay plateau, a blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah that saw extended maceration and was raised in a mix of wood vats, demi-muids, and barrels. Expect a nose of dark fruit, violet, black pepper, and wild herbs, moving into a medium to full-bodied palate with smooth tannins and a great finish. Drinkable now on its fruit, but built to improve over the next 4 to 7 years.
