2023 Charles Van Canneyt - Bourgogne Rouge (750ml)

Best known as the winemaker behind Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat, one of Chambolle-Musigny's most respected estates, Charles Van Canneyt is the grandson of Alain Hudelot and has run the family domaine since 2008. Wanting to expand beyond what the estate's own vineyards allow, he started a négociant label under his name in 2012, sourcing fruit from a trusted network of growers across the Côte d'Or rather than acquiring new land himself. The approach lets him apply the same exacting standards from the family estate to a wider range of terroirs.

This Bourgogne Rouge is Pinot Noir sourced primarily from the Hautes Côtes de Nuits, a higher, cooler stretch of vineyard land that tends to produce lighter, more perfumed wines than the villages below. Growers farm and pick to Van Canneyt's specifications, and the wine is vinified and aged in his own cellar with restrained oak use, keeping the focus on freshness rather than power.

The nose shows red berries, black tea, and a subtle dried-leaf character, while the palate is light-footed with a silky texture and lively energy. Good with game meats, roast poultry, or an aged cow's milk cheese.
