2023 Chateau du Cedre - Malbec Cahors Heritage (750ml)

Brothers Pascal and Jean-Marc Verhaeghe have made Château du Cèdre one of the benchmark estates of Cahors, Malbec’s original French home. The vineyards have been farmed organically since 2000 and certified since 2012. Héritage is their juicy, approachable bottling. It’s mostly Malbec with a splash of Merlot, from vines on limestone and iron-rich sandy gravel along the Lot River. The grapes are destemmed, gently crushed and fermented cool in stainless steel, so the fruit stays front and center. Expect deep ruby color, blackcurrant, blueberry and violet on the nose, with a little spice. The palate is smooth and fresh, with clean acidity and soft tannins. A great everyday Malbec for burgers, grilled steak, charcuterie or hard cheeses.
