Domaine des Comtes Lafon has belonged to the Lafon family since 1865, with Dominique Lafon steering the estate from 1985 until stepping back at the end of 2021, when leadership passed to the fifth generation, Léa and Pierre Lafon. The domaine farms roughly fourteen hectares across Volnay, Monthélie, Chassagne-Montrachet, and Meursault, and was among the earliest in Burgundy to embrace biodynamic viticulture, fully converted since 1998. Clos de la Baronne came into the family's hands in 2011 when the old Domaine René Manuel estate was broken up, and has been bottled separately since the 2012 vintage.

This walled village clos covers about two and a half hectares of vines averaging forty years old, farmed organically and biodynamically with low yields. The 2023 growing season on the Côte de Beaune was marked by balance, with picking beginning in late August and fruit, acidity, and alcohol arriving in harmony. As with the domaine's other whites, the Chardonnay was barrel fermented and aged roughly two winters on the lees before bottling under Diam technical cork.

True to its reputation as the softest, roundest wine in Lafon's cellar, the 2023 Clos de la Baronne offers aromas of honeyed pear and orchard blossom, leading into a medium to full-bodied palate with broad, generous texture balanced by the limestone-driven minerality typical of the site. It suits roasted chicken, seared scallops, or a creamy Comté.
