Denis Bachelet has run his tiny Gevrey-Chambertin domaine nearly single-handedly since the early 1980s, and this Côte de Nuits-Villages — sourced from old vines (50-70 years) on the upper slope at Brochon — is the last vintage to carry this appellation before the parcel is reclassified as Fixin starting in 2024. It's a step up in structure from his Bourgogne Rouge, with the same meticulous, low-yield farming and native-yeast winemaking that's made Bachelet a cult name in Gevrey. Expect dark berries, cassis, licorice, and woodsmoke on the nose, with a full-bodied, soil-driven palate, ripe tannins, and a long, precise finish. Serious, age-worthy red Burgundy at a village-level price.

Country France
Region Burgundy
Appellation Côte de Nuits-Villages
Producer Domaine Denis Bachelet
Varietal Pinot Noir
Format 750ml
90-91 Points
"The 2023 Côte de Nuits-Villages is especially good (as of next year, it will become Fixin, but the vineyard won't change). Exhibiting aromas of blackberries, mulberries, licorice and spices, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and textural, with excellent concentration and a long finish."
