2023 Domaine Arlaud - Morey St. Denis Aux Chezeaux (750ml)
Domaine Arlaud has been in the same family since 1942, when Joseph Arlaud married into a household with deep Burgundian vineyard holdings. His son Hervé expanded the estate from 1983, and it now passes to three siblings, Cyprien, Romain, and Bertille, who farm biodynamically across a remarkable spread of Côte de Nuits terroirs stretching from Gevrey-Chambertin through Chambolle and Vosne to Clos de la Roche. Cyprien leads the winemaking with a light touch, favoring partial destemming and natural yeasts to let each site speak on its own terms.
Aux Chezeaux sits on the Gevrey-Chambertin side of Morey-Saint-Denis, its closest neighbors being the grand crus Charmes and Mazoyères-Chambertin. That proximity shows in the wine, which tends toward darker, more brooding fruit and a spicier profile than other Arlaud premier crus. The 2023 vintage aged in barrel with only a modest share of new oak, aimed at preserving precision over power.
Dark berry and spice notes dominate, with a fine, sculpted tannic grain that makes this vintage more approachable young than usual for the site. Pair it with lamb shank, wild boar stew, or aged Cantal cheese.
