Eisele Vineyard sits just south of Calistoga and stands among Napa Valley's most storied estates, its history stretching back decades before Bart and Daphne Araujo acquired the property in 1990. Under the Araujos, the estate introduced meticulous organic and biodynamic farming and built a reputation for extraordinary Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Syrah, all carrying the Eisele Vineyard name. In 2013, ownership passed to the Pinault family, proprietors of Chateau Latour in Bordeaux, who have continued that legacy of precision farming and site expression, treating the vineyard itself as the one constant across decades of vintages and winemakers.

The Sauvignon Blanc comes from parcels on the eastern side of the property, where the surrounding hills shield the vines from harsh afternoon sun and help preserve freshness through the growing season. The 2023 blend combines Sauvignon Musqué, prized for its slightly exotic aromatics, with a smaller portion of traditional Sauvignon Blanc, whose leaner, gravelly structure adds backbone. The wine is matured in a mix of French and Austrian demi muids, a barrel size chosen to build texture and enhance purity without imposing heavy oak character on the finished wine.

The 2023 opens with honeysuckle, star jasmine, and lemon zest, joined by pineapple guava, grapefruit, and a light herbal note of thyme. The palate is beautifully balanced, saline and mineral driven, with a lightly rounded texture buoyed by lively acidity. It pairs wonderfully with grilled halibut, fresh oysters, or a simple goat cheese salad.

98 Points
"So much complex pear blossom, peaches, Meyer lemon, pineapple and snap peas. Full bodied with a layered, phenolic texture and a tangy and vivid finish. Some flint at the end. Really zesty."
—James Suckling-James Suckling
