Eisele Vineyard sits just south of Calistoga on a historic site first planted to wine grapes in the 1880s. Bart and Daphne Araujo acquired the property in 1990 and spent 23 years building it into one of Napa's most coveted labels before selling it in 2013 to the Pinault family, owners of Château Latour. Farmed organically and biodynamically, the vineyard is planted mostly to Cabernet Sauvignon, with a small block set aside for the two Sauvignon Blanc clones used here.

The Sauvignon Blanc parcels sit on the eastern side of the estate, where hills shield the vines from harsh afternoon sun and preserve their freshness. The blend combines Sauvignon Musqué, prized for its exotic aromatics, with a portion of classic Sauvignon Blanc grown on lean, gravelly soil for structure. After a slow, cool 2023 season, the wine aged twelve months on its lees across stainless steel, concrete, and oak vessels.

The 2023 opens with fresh cut grass and hawthorn blossom, followed by candied citrus, lemongrass, and ginger. On the palate, rose petal and pink grapefruit meet a rich, honeycomb texture, with poached pear and vanilla lingering into a bright finish. Pour it with grilled shrimp or a citrus-dressed salad.

98 Points
"So much complex pear blossom, peaches, Meyer lemon, pineapple and snap peas. Full bodied with a layered, phenolic texture and a tangy and vivid finish. Some flint at the end. Really zesty."
—James Suckling-James Suckling
