2023 Francois Lumpp - Givry Vigne Rouge (750ml)

It's rare for a single family to be credited with putting an entire appellation on the map, but that is exactly the Lumpp legacy in Givry. Once considered a Côte Chalonnaise afterthought, the village now draws serious attention from Burgundy lovers, largely thanks to François and Isabelle Lumpp, who founded their own label in 1991 and planted many of their vines themselves using sélection massale cuttings, a level of hands-on involvement that has become increasingly rare in Burgundy.

A Vigne Rouge comes from a 2.45-hectare parcel on mostly south-facing slopes, where limestone and fine marl combine with notably iron-rich red soils to give the wine both depth and a naturally slender, racy frame. The vines are tended entirely by hand, with traditional techniques like light ridging and careful canopy work used to keep them healthy without machinery.

Black cherry and blueberry jam lead the nose, joined by peony, licorice, sweet spice, and a touch of cocoa that deepens with air. The palate is broad yet elegant, with fine, velvety tannins and lasting freshness. It's a natural match for beef bourguignon or coq au vin.
