2023 Hubert Lignier - Morey St. Denis (750ml) [PRE ARRIVAL]
If the Chambolle is Lignier in its most perfumed, silken mode, the Morey-Saint-Denis is the same house in a darker, more complex register. Morey sits between Chambolle and Gevrey on the Côte de Nuits, and its wines carry both the floral delicacy of its southern neighbor and the mineral backbone and earthy depth of its northern one — a village that refuses to be easily defined.
At Domaine Hubert Lignier, the house philosophy is to preserve a portion of whole clusters in the vinification, performing pump-overs and punch-downs harmoniously to extract delicate and silky tannins, with 20 to 30% new oak during an élevage of nearly two years. The result is wines of considerable structural depth that never lose their sense of place.
In 2023, Morey-Saint-Denis showed attractive tension and vibrancy — straight, energetic red fruit, nicely herbaceous from whole-bunch inclusion, with a light mineral touch and salinity on the finish. The vintage's long, cool growing season produced wines of genuine freshness and definition, a return to more classic Burgundy after a run of warmer years. Laurent Lignier's style continues to move toward greater delicacy and precision — and in a village like Morey, that is a very compelling direction.
Drink from 2027 through 2038.
