One of the Southern Rhône's most beloved estates, Domaine de la Janasse has been a benchmark for Châteauneuf-du-Pape since the Sabon family established it in 1973. The Tradition rouge is their signature cuvée — a blend of approximately 75% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre drawn from a mosaic of terroirs on the northern part of the appellation, including sandy soils, rolled galets, and red clay on the celebrated La Crau plateau. Vines average 40 years of age and are farmed without pesticides or herbicides.

In the cellar, grapes are 80% destemmed and undergo a 21–28 day maceration with daily manual punch-downs, delivering textural richness without heaviness. Aging follows in a combination of large foudres and barriques for 12 months, lending structure and depth while preserving the wine's vibrant fruit core.

The 2023 shows the hallmarks of a great Janasse Tradition: ripe dark cherry and garrigue on the nose, a plush yet precise palate, and tannins that are firm but polished. This is Châteauneuf-du-Pape that rewards both the patient cellar and the eager dinner table.

Drink: 2026–2035 | Pair with: Roast lamb, wild game, braised short rib, aged hard cheeses

93 Points
"Oozes ripe cherry and pretty fruit in a punchy, warm profile set against a wall of crushed graphite. Shows impressive fruit purity and lusciousness, with textural finesse and dried herbs on the streaming, polished finish, where there’s sneaky grip and length. Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault. Drink now through 2035. 4,166 cases made, 140 cases imported."
