Louis Michel is the great purist address of Chablis — the cellar hasn't seen an oak barrel in over 55 years, and Guillaume Michel makes unflinchingly transparent, steel-raised wines built to showcase terroir and nothing else. Vaulorent is the jewel of the range: an enclave carved into the Fourchaume slope, sitting right up against the grand crus, on clay-rich Kimmeridgian soils that give it real force and substance. The 2023 offers sweet aromas of yellow apple, peach, and citrus oil mingled with freshly baked bread, over a rich, sleek, medium-bodied palate with excellent freshness and a lingering, saline finish. Grand cru power in all but name. Built to age a decade or more.
