Patty Green and Jim Anderson founded Patricia Green Cellars in 2000 on a 52-acre estate in Ribbon Ridge, and it now bottles more individual Pinot Noirs than any other winery in America. Volcanic started in 2005 as a few barrels from their Dundee Hills sites and grew into one of the house's two "soil series" wines, built to show what the red volcanic Jory soils bring to Pinot. 2023 is the final vintage of this cuvée, and the winery calls the year one of the best in its history.

The blend is a cross section of older-vine sites across the Dundee Hills. Expect blackberry, ripe raspberry and black currant, laced with warm spice, fresh herbs, a touch of dark chocolate and a mineral edge. Plush and silky, with smooth tannins and lift. Perfect with roast duck, mushroom risotto, grilled salmon or pork tenderloin

"The 2023 Pinot Noir Volcanic is approachable and plush with mixed berry fruit. It’s easygoing though, with fine, silky tannins, balanced acidity and purity, and a silky texture with ripe raspberries, pomegranate, and fresh flowers. It’s more approachable but not one-noted and has a more immediate and charming feel all around. Drink over the coming 10 years."
